08 Dec Where is the road taking us?
The profession of truck driver has changed a lot and major efforts have been invested in making it more attractive and more competitive. Work-family balance, fewer hours at the wheel, time off and better wages are just some examples of improved working conditions, which have become a priority for employers. Truckers are also extremely well trained, they drive very safely and our vehicles regularly pass strict inspections to ensure that they comply with all standards. This sums up the way things are done at Transport Moses.
Drivers are the foundation of the road transport industry. But many of them are retiring and the sector needs a new generation. It is expected that at least 1,500 new truck driving positions will open up every year, 80% of them permanent jobs and 90% full-time. At Transport Moses, new job offers are posted regularly.
The trucking industry contributes $3.7 billion to Quebec’s economy and 55% of cargo is transported by truck. This means that more than half the products consumed daily and purchased in our stores, our groceries, our pharmacies and elsewhere don’t appear on the shelves by magic: they are delivered by truck! 😉
Workforce needs in the freight-trucking industry will grow in the next 10 years. The retirement of 20% of the workers will open up more than 52,000 jobs by the year 2020 , creating opportunities for a younger generation. Whether they choose to work as drivers, mechanics, supervisors, dispatchers or in a variety of other functions, a great many exciting jobs will be available in the coming years!
With all this in mind, the Association du camionnage du Québec has kicked off the light-hearted PAS DE CAMIONS! ad campaign. Surely you’ve heard about it!
